I was thinking (yes I do have Brian) when I was a teenager my Auntie used to call me a Jezebel, I did not know the meaning but I loved the word and as it is I have turned out a bit of a Jezebel Oh alright a lot. Meaning of Jezebel: an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman
Jezebel was the daughter of the priest-king Ethbaal, ruler of the Phoenician cities of Tyre and Sidon. When Jezebel married King Ahab of Israel (ruled c. 874–853 BCE), she persuaded him to introduce the worship of the Tyrian god Baal-Melkart, a nature god. Most of the prophets of Yahweh were killed at her command. Don’t worry I will not kill you I might shag you!!
Who Was Jezebel?
For More than two thousand years, Jezebel has been saddled with a reputation as the bad girl of the bible, the wickedest of woman. This ancient queen has been denounced as a murderer, prostitute and enemy of god but her name has been adopted for lingerie lines and world war ll missiles alike.
Israel’s most accursed queen carefully fixes a pink rose in her red locks in John Byam Liston Shaw’s “Jezebel” from 1896. Jezebel’s reputation as the most dangerous seductress in the Bible stems from her final appearance: her husband King Ahab is dead; her son has been murdered by Jehu. As Jehu’s chariot races toward the palace to kill Jezebel, she “painted her eyes with kohl and dressed her hair, and she looked out of the window”. Looking down from her window, Jezebel taunted Jehu, the general who had overthrown and killed her son. Jehu ordered her eunuchs to throw her out the window. Later, when he commanded that she be properly buried as a king's daughter, it was discovered that, as Elijah had foretold, dogs had eaten most of her body Yuk!
